WHEEL VARIATION
Radial run-out indicates changes in the wheel or tire radius as the assembly rotates.
Measure wheel and tire radial run-out to help investigate vibration, irregular rotation, and other wheel-service concerns.
Radial run-out describes variation in the distance from the center of rotation to the wheel or tire measuring surface.

Radial run-out indicates changes in the wheel or tire radius as the assembly rotates.

Variation may originate in the tire, wheel, or mounting conditions. Measurement helps guide further inspection.

Excessive variation can contribute to vibration and other ride-quality concerns.
Support investigation of vibration concerns.
Observe changes across a complete rotation.
Use measured information to focus the next diagnostic step.
Include run-out checks in wheel and tire inspection.
Set up the gauge on a stable surface and position the roller head against the wheel or tire measuring surface. Adjust the height and angle as needed.
Slowly rotate the wheel while maintaining consistent contact with the measuring surface. Make a complete rotation to identify high and low spots.
Note the highest and lowest readings during the rotation. The total indicated radial run-out (TIR) is the difference between the high and low readings.
Choose an analog or digital complete gauge, then explore available components and accessories.

Both complete gauges include the four shared components shown below, plus the model-specific indicator: an analog dial indicator for RRG-1940-1 or a digital indicator for RRG-1940-2.
Five components per complete gauge.
